Not all translations are equal. Legal translation concerns the translation of all documents with a legal value. If certified, it bears the seal of authenticity. This means that the source vocabulary and context must be preserved when translated in order to preserve the equivalent meaning and legal weight of the translated document.

So a good translation of an official legal document from English into French may require the preservation of meaning (equivalence) from the Anglo-Saxon legal system to the Roman legal system that is the foundation of French law.

They may also be commercial or civil proceedings documents (contracts, general sales conditions), notarial deeds (wills, deeds of sale), documents of legal proceedings (court decisions, minutes, lawyers’ conclusions, witness statements), civil status documents (birth or death certificates, marriage certificates, passports), certificates (diplomas, driving licenses)

Translation costs depend on the type of document and its characteristics (length, format, language, area of specialization, particular difficulties…), and amount of pages.
